Cover WV Day is a day to help all West Virginians enroll in health coverage. Over 40 locations will be accepting walk-ins from 10am to 4pm where anyone can come in to get free assistance in enrolling in health coverage.
Over 100,000 West Virginians still lack health coverage. We want to ensure that people know about the changes to the Marketplace plans that make them more affordable. We aim to be the first state with a 0% uninsured rate.

Most people that do not currently have health insurance can benefit from coverage on what is call the Health Insurance Marketplace. These plans are designed for people who can’t get health insurance through an employer, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, or other qualifying insurance programs. Most people have to sign up during Open Enrollment each year, which runs from November 1st through January 15th.
-
About 97% of West Virginians qualify for financial assistance and 4 in 5 can get a plan for less than $10 per month.

While each site is different, typically most people who attended last year waited less than 10 minutes to speak to someone. You will also have the option to speak to someone to see if you qualify and then you can schedule an appointment if you are unable to wait to enroll on-site.
-
If any site locations will have to close due to weather, it will be posted to our Facebook page. Some locations may have a make-up day on Thursday, January 9th. The updated location list and schedule will be posted by 9am Tuesday, January 7th.

None of these plans are designed for someone who already has existing health coverage. For example, if you are already enrolled in Medicare and are looking for a supplemental plan, this event would not be beneficial for you. We would recommend contacting the WVSHIP program which provides free assistance with Medicare topics. You can contact them at 877-987-3646.

The plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace are designed for anyone without an offer of affordable coverage. However, if you believe that the insurance that is offered is not full coverage or costs more than 9.02% of your household income, then you could benefit from attending Cover WV Day or calling WV Navigator at 304-356-5834 to see if you would qualify.

You can call and speak to a navigator (304-356-5834) or an assister at any time before January 15, 2025 to get enrolled in the marketplace over the phone!

In most cases you may not be able to get coverage again until 2026 if you missed the Open Enrollment deadline. There are some circumstances where you can get a Special Enrollment Period to enroll throughout the year. This includes if you have lost existing health insurance, moved from out of state, gotten married, had a baby, or lost Medicaid. In most cases, you will have 60 days from the life event to enroll.
If you believe you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you can call WV Navigator at 304-356-5834 for assistance.
